Renegade Brewing Company happened to be one of the first local breweries I visited upon moving to Denver two years ago, and despite a very active and on-going attempt to visit every brewery along the Front Range, it continues to be one of my all-time favorites. I love, or at least can appreciate, nearly everything coming out of their taps throughout the year.
A favorite brewery is often personal to your own beer preferences. For example, I won’t typically visit Crooked Stave in RiNo because I’m not a big sour fan, but I would absolutely recommend a visit if you do love sours, because I love the people and its ambiance within The Source. I would not label Renegade as having any particularly dominant style. They nearly always have a selection of ales, IPAs, one or two darker styles, and at least one or more experimental beers on tap. I find it to be a wonderful stop to take visiting friends as the breadth of good beer makes it easy to find the right pint for your personal palate.
At this time of year they just so happen to be pouring some of my all-time favorite seasonal beers in the greater Denver area: “Hammer & Sickle”, a Russian Imperial Stout, “Hiatus”, a cold-coffee infused Oatmeal Stout, and E3 “Endpoint”, a Triple IPA. Just past the New Year will mark their annual tradition of pouring “Black Gold” (formerly “Depravity”), an Imperial Peanut Butter Cup Stout; which often sells out within a few days.
The cooler season is a perfect time of year to bring your four-legged drinking buddy along too. The majority of Renegade’s seating is inside, and you’ll often see at least a couple of dogs hanging out, with the staff often happy to see them. Just be cool and keep your dog under control to help it stay dog friendly for everyone. No one wants to drop a pint because they tripped over a dog leash. You can see my personal drinking buddy in the accompanying photo, trying to pretend he wasn’t just making eyes at my delicious Hammer & Sickle stout.
