Whenever someone asks me to go to lunch during the week, and asks where I want to go, my response is enthusiastically “City Bakery Cafe!” It’s been my favorite lunch by far for many years, and I get so excited to share it with others. It is a local cafe located in the Cap Hill area, off 7th & Lincoln. They serve soups, sandwiches, and salads, coffees, and desserts, and everything is high quality and delicious.
Another great thing about City Bakery Cafe is the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff, including the owner Michael, who is always walking around the cafe, greeting patrons and making sure everyone has what they need.
Their sandwiches are absolutely fantastic, but I mostly always get their Turkey Artichoke Panini. I would say I’m in a rut, but I love it too much, and when I order something else, I end up slightly regretting it. It has a sun-dried tomato spread, along with some melty cheese, and is served on fresh sourdough bread. I can easily say it’s my favorite sandwich in Denver.
A few other favorite items include the Mixed Blue Salad with blue cheese, sunflower seeds, and cranberries with caesar dressing. Perfect crunch and flavor!
Their desserts & pastries are wonderful as well, with some highlights that include Marjolaine (which inspired me to make my own- check out this post from last August) and a homemade Oreo.
Tip: If you get the full meal, you get a bag of chips & a freshly-baked cookie, but you can also do 1/2 & 1/2, which is nice when you can’t decide.
Anyway, you can’t go wrong with anything at City Bakery Cafe, and I highly, highly recommend it. They sell their bread there, so you can pick up a Sourdough boule or baguette for dinner. They serve breakfast & lunch and are open every day but Sunday. Another bonus is that they recently started serving alcohol!
